BlogOne of the advantages of flying on a private jet is that you have far fewer limitations than when flying with commercial airlines. You have no hidden luggage fees to worry about and no concern over lost luggage in transit. But there are a few facts to consider when choosing the right plane for your journey as some space and safety-related luggage limitations still apply.
Even though there are many different factors that influence luggage requirements for private planes, we decided to extract the most common ones:
Aircraft size
Private jets come in all types of sizes. The luggage amount that each aircraft can hold differs more or less. If you choose to fly with a 4-6 seat light jet, you will obviously have to bring fewer things on board than you could if travelling by a 12-seat large jet that has greater baggage capacity.
Plane weight
There are strict take-off and landing weights that no pilot should exceed. Many things add up while talking about the weight of a jet, such as jet fuel, the number of people flying, amount of luggage, etc.
Number of flying passengers
Generally, on light and medium-sized jets every seat is intended for one passenger and that also equals one item of luggage. For example, if you are boarding an 8-seat jet with all of the seats taken, the total number of luggage is 8 items. However, private jets usually don’t get completely filled up and if are some empty seats, you will be allowed to bring more luggage than usual.
Runway length
Different airplanes require different times to speed up before taking off and slow down after landing. Even though the length of many runways is pretty generous and fits all types of aircraft, some are created shorter than others due to the lack of space, this applies especially for small island airports.
A heavier aircraft typically requires a longer runway because it speeds up and stops slower than a lighter plane. If the private jet that you are flying with will be approaching a short runway, you might be asked to bring fewer things with you as luggage is additional weight that increases the jet's speed up and slow-down time.
The best strategy is to select a jet with the right capacity for your luggage needs, and this is why Private Jet brokers like Cielo Aviation are here for: to understand your needs and to help you book the right plane for your trip.
There are plenty of things you can bring on a private jet that may not be allowed on a commercial flight, such as:
- Full-size liquids
- Golf clubs
- Bicycles
- Skis and snowboards
- Hunting or archery equipment for sporting purposes
Please always double check with our team before arriving with these items to make sure they can be accommodated appropriately.
A huge advantage compared to commercial flights is that on most private jets, you will be able to access your luggage during the flight, as the luggage hold and passengers are situated on the same level.
Entry Level Jets: Holds approximately 4 to 5 pieces of luggage
Light Jet: Holds approximately 6 to 7 pieces of luggage
Mid Size Jet: Holds approximately 7 to 9 pieces of luggage
Super-Mid Size Jet: Holds approximately 9 to 11 pieces of luggage
Heavy Jets: Holds approximately 10 to 14 pieces of luggage
Ultra Long Range Jets: Holds approximately 12 to 15 pieces of luggage
