Elevate your flight experience with delicious food and drinks: All about catering on Private Jets

Private Jet Catering

A question often asked by our clients here at Cielo Aviation is “What kind of food will I get on my private flight?”
The answer is simple: anything you want! The options available for catering onboard your private flight are as varied as our accessible fleet of private jets. You can bring your preferred delicacies onboard, order from your favourite restaurant that delivers meals to your FBO or ask us at Cielo Aviation to prepare something special.

We believe that private flying is a bespoke and personalised service, with catering and hospitality to match. Prior to your first flight with Cielo Aviation, our team will talk to you about your general catering preferences so that we can understand your needs and provide the best possible service each time you fly with us.

Crafting culinary delights at 40,000 feet

Catering for private jets is an extremely delicate affair and one that is affected by regular changes in passengers schedule, the type of aircraft (we discuss catering options by aircraft category further down), location and dietary requirements.

Unlike airline catering companies, private jet caterer focus entirely on your requests. They are creative chefs who prepare tailored-dishes to suit your dietary preferences, tastes and needs. However, the kind of food you can order for a particular journey will depend on the location you are travelling to and from and on your flight duration. We collaborate with preferred catering providers for each airport we fly to; your meals will be arranged with the FBO and freshly delivered for your flight.

There are rigorous health and safety standards required for private aviation, as well as challenges such as retaining food quality on-board. Private Jet Caterer consider how the food travels and how altitude affects taste buds:

The impact on altitude and air pressure on food taste and preparation

You may find that some foods you enjoy on the ground taste differently in the air. Once your cabin is pressurised and airborne, our taste buds and sense of smell are influenced by altitude, cabin pressure and dry air. In fact, our perception of saltiness and sweetness drops by around 30 percent at high altitude.

Low seasoned vegetables, poached chicken and light wines or beer may appear too bland for your taste. Our preferred in-flight catering providers specialise in crafting tasty menus tailored to cabin conditions: their experienced chefs adapt dishes to maximise flavour, selecting ingredients high in umami, such as cold-cuts, meats, seafood, soy foods, mushrooms and olives.

An essential factor for your catering selection is how the food should be stored and served. Some private jets have refrigerators, but others rely on coolers. If you fly on a light jet that lacks refrigeration, sushi may not be your first choice.

Available Private jet catering options by aircraft category

Your onboard catering options vary according to the size of aircraft you are travelling with and its galley facilities, the duration of your flight and whether there is a flight attendant onboard.

Light Jets and Super Light Jet

Due to the limited space on small jets, food options tend towards nibbles. You’ll be able to order light dishes such as canapes, charcuterie, salads, sandwiches, antipasti, pastries and fruit. Hot food will not be available neither the option to reheat any dishes you order.

On smaller jets, passengers usually help themselves to catering which will be laid out prepared. However, flight attendants can be available on request for any aircraft.

From Midsize Jets to Long Range Jets

These larger aircraft may have a galley with a small kitchen onboard and will allow a cabin service that includes hot dishes, which are finished and served onboard by the flight attendant. This includes fine dining options, beautifully presented to restaurant standards.

Should you fly on a VIP Airliner, then you will most likely have a fully equipped kitchen with a personal chef where any dish you desire may be prepared and served.

Special requests and dietary requirements

We aim to accommodate all kinds of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus. If you are travelling with children, special kids-friendly dishes can be arranged to please their tastes.

At Cielo Aviation, we see a wide range of different food requests from our clients, and we do our best to please all of them. It’s not always about haute cuisine, it is often a very specific wish to make that flight extra-personal, from a client's favourite street-food to birthday cakes or chocolates and flowers - we like nothing better than ensuring your flight experience is as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

Whenever possible, order your preferred meal in advance

We recommend that you tell us your in-flight catering preferences at least 48 hours before departure, especially when you have any dietary restrictions, allergies ore require vegan and vegetarian food options. However, we understand that last-minute flight plans happen, and we work with local partners that will do everything possible to prepare your meal on time.
