The concept of Legacy was formally unveiled at Farnborough in 2000 and certified in 2002 by both FAA and JAA. Since then more than 200 Legacy 600/650 are flying around the world. Transformation of the basic ERJ-135 airframe that evolved into the Legacy included the addition of 7ft winglets for added lift and drag reduction, fuselage reinforcement and cargo compartments fuel tanks.
